TIDE
Tide's first influences were exposure to the NY street art and UK post-punk scenes as a teenager. He has been making a living as an artist since the late 1990s when he was involved in the London art/skateboard scene alongside some now world-famous names. He was involved as a performer in the music industry and also had his own clothing label before becoming a full-time artist in his mid-twenties. Tide's work is currently in galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Edinburgh, London and Dublin, and he has sold art in over 20 countries worldwide.
Tide has a mixed-heritage background and splits his time between the UK and Ireland.
Notoriously camera-shy, Tide said this is in an interview with the BBC's Bruce Fielding:
"Tell us about you... Why do you shy away from the limelight?'
"Well, I've been on the edge of being well known before, and it's scary how fast control over even the most basic choices in your life is whipped away from you when people think they own a piece of you, and knowing what you look like is the first piece of their thinking they have some sort of ownership of you. Secondly it may be a cliché but I want the work to speak for itself I don't think knowing what I look like should have any impact on whether you should buy my art or not. I mean, Hogarth sold staggering amounts of prints because people enjoyed his work, not his looks. It's a very 21st century obsession, this desire to display and ogle, to grade people on how they look, and in my view not a very healthy one. People always think
'Oh, he's doing a Banksy, being all mysterious' but really it's not that, it's just that I've had my glimpse of fame and it was really detrimental to my creativity and that's what I prize most."
Tide draws his inspiration from anywhere, and works in many different media. His work ranges from Giclee prints to urban-style spray-paint art to oil-paint portraiture, although he is best known for his Pop Art pieces.
'Londoners I' is the latest collection of limited edition prints, eight different characters in Tide's trademark 'Queen' style based around people who were either born in, or based their life around, London. Amy Winehouse, Cara Delavigne, Freddie Mercury, George Michael,
Karl Lagerfeld, Kate Moss. Tracey Emin and Vivienne Westwood have all made
the capital their home and added their own unique magic to help keep
London the cultural centre of the world.
There are eight designs, each one hand cut to 69cm x 95cm.
Tide is proud to partner with Outlined Gallery and make this collection exclusive to them -you won't be able to get these prints anywhere else. There are only ten of each print. Each print is accompanied by its own unique Certificate of Authenticity signed by Tide.
