MERLIN SUMMERS
Merlin Summers lives in Tooting. He is Autistic with learning difficulties and is currently studying BA Animation at the University West of England. His work is driven by his imagination and how everyday situations can become absurd and surreal.
This exhibition features Merlin’s animation, The Chase, alongside intricately detailed drawings, made using pencil on paper. Frequently, these depict recognisable city and town landscapes and landmarks such as Big Ben, Nelson’s Column and the Houses of Parliament. With the insertion of repeating motifs such as ships, train carriages and fantasy aeronautical engineering, the aforementioned landscapes are subverted, sometimes uncomfortably, causing us to question our relationship to such institutions or objects.
